UWA Board of Trustees Concludes Supervisory Visit to Lake Mburo Conservation Area.
Day two of the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) Board of Trustees’ supervisory visit to Lake Mburo Conservation Area (LMCA) began with an inspection of newly constructed staff quarters at Minekye. The 24-room facility, built by the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, was highly commended by Board Chair, Prof. James Kalema, as a significant boost to staff welfare in the park.
The delegation also visited the UWA Buffalo Tented Camp, which is set for revamping to enhance tourism opportunities within the “Whispers of the Wild.” In addition, the Board commissioned 12 newly built ranger accommodation units at Rwonyo — a modern facility that will not only improve housing standards for frontline staff but also uplift morale and strengthen field operations.
Other key activities included visits to invasive species removal sites and inspections of dams within the park. A total of 12 dams are now operational, with five recently desilted and two newly constructed. These water sources are vital in mitigating the effects of prolonged dry seasons, ensuring wildlife has access to water and remains within the park boundaries.
The day concluded with a guided boat cruise along Lake Mburo, offering the Board an opportunity to experience firsthand the serene beauty and rich biodiversity of Uganda’s “Whispers of the Wild.”
With activities in LMCA successfully completed, the Board of Trustees has now headed to Kibale Conservation Area to continue its supervisory mission.
