UWA Leases Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve

The Uganda Wildlife Authority has leased Wildlife Reserve to a private developer. The reserve has been awarded to the management of to Overland Safaris Limited for a period of 20 years from 2008 to 2028, in a bid to develop local tourism to international standards.

According to the management agreement dated October 16 2008, Overland Safaris Ltd to be known now as Karimajong Overland Safaris Ltd (Kos). It will run the reserve, develop necessary infrastructure, restore viable animal species to the area through translocations in close collaboration with UWA and in accordance with UWA Act 2000 and other laws and guidelines that may supplement the agreement, as well as, develop tourism activities and assist the communities to develop community based tourism enterprise.

This less known protected area is one of the best savanna game parks in North Eastern Uganda.

Pian Upe is located in Nakapiripirit It is home to buffaloes, elands, zebras, water bucks, hyenas, antelopes, leopards, red bucks, warthogs, crocodiles and different species of birds.
