UWA Hosts Outgoing Italian Ambassador

The outgoing Italian Ambassador to Uganda, H.E Maurizio Teucci paid a courtesy call to the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) offices on Friday 4th November 2005, and had a long chat with the UWA Chairman Board of Trustees, Mr. John Nagenda and the Executive Director, Mr. Moses Mapesa.

The Ambassador who wrote a book about the cultures of the Great Lakes countries published it with his own funds, presented copies of the book to Mr. Nagenda and Mr. Mapesa. The book is titled, “The Ambassador’s Africa: Glimpses of Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and neighbouring countries”.

During his stay in Uganda, the Ambassador took more than 9, 000 photographs and then chose 1000 photographs, which he used in the book. “I tried to give a comprehensive view of Uganda in terms of culture, which is a potential source of revenue, ” the Ambassador noted.

He visited some of Uganda’s best national parks including Murchison Falls National Park (MFNP), Queen Elizabeth National Park (QENP) and Lake Mburo National Park (LMNP), and greatly enjoyed his experiences there. “Your rangers are very serious people and very professional; they received good training,” the Ambassador said to the UWA Executive Director.

The book, copies of which have out, was selling at Ush50, 000/- in Uganda and Eur60 in Italy, with the proceeds going to the National Association of the Blind. A total of Ush14m was realised from the sale of the book.

H.E Ambassador Maurizio Teucci plans to write another book about “The Animals of Uganda”, but before he does, he will pay another visit to the national parks including Kidepo Valley National Park.
