As part of efforts to promote domestic tourism during the World Tourism Week, Uganda Wildlife Authority is giving all tourists both foreign and local a 20 percent discount on national park entry fees except the parks which have packaged tourist activities such as gorilla tracking, chimpanzee tracking and mountaineering as the main activities. These include Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Kibale National Park, Rwenzori Mountains National Park and Mt. Elgon National Park.

Parks where the 20 percent discount applies include Murchison Falls National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Semuliki National Park, Kidepo Valley National Park, Lake Mburo National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.

The discount period is one week, from 23rd September 2008 to 30th September 2008 inclusive.

World Tourism Day will be celebrated on 27th September 2008 in Kasese District, which is the district with the highest concentration of national parks in Uganda.

According to a letter signed by the UWA Executive Director and sent to UWA’s stakeholders, all categories of tourists are included in the discount. “It will cater for the all categories of visitors who will be making payments for the park entrance at the various park gates and park headquarters during that time, and will not cover payments that were made earlier than 23rd September 2008.” The letter reads.
