Protecting People, Conserving Wildlife: UWA Relocates Crocodiles from Kyamuswa
Uganda Wildlife Authority Problem Animal Control Unit (PACU) recently conducted an operation in Kyamuswa Island, Kalangala District, where two suspected man-eater crocodiles were captured. The reptiles — a female measuring 3.3 meters and a male measuring 4.47 meters — had posed a serious threat to the fishing community.
The Problem Animal Control Unit plays a vital role in addressing human–wildlife conflict, ensuring that communities are safe while animals are conserved. In line with this mandate, the captured crocodiles were relocated to Murchison Falls within Karuma Wildlife Reserve, where they were released back into their natural habitat.
This intervention has restored peace of mind for residents of Kyamuswa while allowing the crocodiles to thrive in a more suitable environment.
